Your private guide meets you at Shanghai Hongqiao Station with pre-booked bullet train tickets. In 45 minutes you arrive in Hangzhou — a different world entirely. Start with a boat cruise on West Lake at the best morning light, when the mist still hangs over the water and the pagodas emerge slowly from the haze. Visit Lingyin Temple, one of China's most important Buddhist temples with 1,700-year-old grottoes carved directly into the limestone of the flying peak. Itinerary
7:00 AM — Shanghai Hotel Pickup
Your private driver meets you at your Shanghai hotel and takes you to Hongqiao Railway Station. Pre-booked tickets ready.
7:45 AM — Bullet Train to Hangzhou
45-minute high-speed train journey. Watch Shanghai give way to Jiangnan countryside. Arrive approximately 8:30 AM.
9:00 AM — West Lake Boat Cruise
Your Hangzhou guide meets you at the station. First stop: a traditional wooden boat across West Lake at the best light of the day — mist on the water, pagodas emerging, willows trailing in the morning breeze. This is why poets have written about this lake for a thousand years.
10:30 AM — Lingyin Temple & Feilai Feng Grottoes
Walk through Lingyin (Soul's Retreat), one of China's largest and wealthiest Buddhist temples, founded in 328 AD. The air is thick with incense, ancient camphor trees shade the courtyards, and the sound of chanting drifts from the halls. Explore the Feilai Feng grottoes beside the temple — over 300 Buddhist stone carvings cut directly into limestone cliffs, dating from the 10th through 14th centuries. The famous Laughing Buddha has been smiling at visitors for over a thousand years.
12:00 PM — Lunch
Authentic Hangzhou cuisine at a restaurant your guide personally recommends. Dongpo Pork, West Lake Fish, Longjing Shrimp — dishes with stories going back centuries.
1:30 PM — Meijiawu Longjing Tea Village
Drive into the hills west of West Lake to Meijiawu, the heart of Longjing tea country. Walk through terraced fields, watch a master hand-roast tea leaves in a hot iron wok using ten precise movements, and participate in a traditional tea ceremony. Taste the difference between Ming Qian (pre-Qingming) and Yu Qian (pre-Grain Rain) harvests.
3:00 PM — Leifeng Pagoda
Ascend Leifeng Pagoda, rebuilt on the original Song Dynasty foundations, for the classic panoramic view across West Lake. Your guide tells the Legend of the White Snake — one of China's Four Great Folktales — in which this pagoda plays a central role.
4:00 PM — Hefang Street & Free Time
Stroll Hangzhou's best-preserved historic street from the Southern Song Dynasty. Traditional pharmacies, tea houses, silk shops, street food. Your guide points out the authentic spots, then gives you free time to explore at your own pace.
6:00 PM — Return to Shanghai
Your guide escorts you to Hangzhou East Station. Board the return train. Driver meets you at Shanghai Hongqiao. Hotel drop-off by approximately 7:30 PM.
